Movie Stars at DST......

Awesome job to all who showed up on Saturday  today (July 20th 2013) the Round the Sound video shoot!

Thanks to everyone for a lot of hard work and patience, as we braved heat, sunburn, endless "takes", and dehydration to get it right.

Especially to our ...

37 Swimmers, who now have their "starts" perfected
5 Kayakers, who covered more distance than the swimmers today
2 Boat crews, who picked up, dropped off, and moved gear, drinks, and kids!
Director and Assistant Cameraman, who knew all the angles
Still Photographer, who captured it all for the record CLICK HERE for PHOTOS
Helicopter pilots (ex Dolphin swimmers, too), sorry about the crash
SAR team, for their brave rescue afterwards
Lifeguard, who fixed the mysterious jellyfish stings
Over 20 Parents and Friends, who volunteered to do everything needed and more
Finish Line team, who made it look like the real thing, and
our Barge pilot and Crew, for being so patient

And thanks to Palmetto Gardens and the Aquarium Staff, who were so supportive.

Well done everyone!

Patty and Brian

Thanks PETER  - What an inspiration

Good Evening Dolphin Swim Team –

Unfortunately I am off the island and could not be there at the prize giving this evening.  As you see, I will go to great lengths to avoid giving speeches.  Actually, I knew how much Lorrie was yearning to MC this event so I made up a fake trip.  I am actually in Flanagan’s watching the Bruins – Blackhawks game.  I will keep my comments brief this evening, as I know Barry would want it that way.

Let me start off by saying thank you to you all for everything you do for the club.  Everyone in this room in one way or another has contributed to the success of the club in the past year.  Whether you coach, manage, volunteer, drive, donate, or cheer, I want to thank you.  We simply cannot operate as a club without the help of everyone.  All you have to do is look around at practices, meets or social events and you see Dolphins helping out and doing it without needing to be asked.  Lisa Reid had a mantra when she was President of Dolphins - “For the good of the club”.  I have seen so many acts done “for the good of the club” in the past year I cannot begin to mention them all or single out the individuals involved for fear of leaving anything or anyone out.  I consider the DST to be like one big family – we have our moments of dysfunction but in the end we all come together for the good of club and for the good of the family.  Thanks for everything you do for the Dolphin family.

In addition, when I look at our swimmers at practices, meets or social events I can’t get over what a great group of swimmers we have at DST.  I always see a group of swimmers with smiles on their faces that all care for and support each other.  Our swimmers clearly understand what it means to be a team and I think we can all learn from their example.  I hope that seeing our swimmers grow in stature, confidence and character makes all of the hard work that everyone puts into this club well worthwhile.  It certainly does for me.

I also want to say how excited I am for our move to the National Sports Center in September.  If you have not seen the facility yet, I can assure you that you will be thoroughly impressed.  The National Sports Center will be a great place for us to call home and will allow us more training time and more flexibility for our different programs.  Thank you all who helped make this move happen.  I think it will serve us well in the years to come.

Finally, to paraphrase John F. Kennedy – “Ask not what Dolphins can do for you, but what you can do for Dolphins”.  I promise you all that the more you put in to this club, the more joy you will get out of it when you watch our swimmers grow and succeed.   Thank you all again and have a great night.

Well done to all the dolphins who braved the artic conditions (really?) for the first of the Best of the Best 2013 last weekend. Feb 2013 - Coach Barry's House

Talent was abundant at the 2013 Dolphins Swim team annual talent competition where the Dolphins showed that they not only have talent in the swimming pool but with all manner of instruments and vocals.

CLICK HERE for some Pics... (and if anyone has more send them to please)

We also said fairwell to Tyler who is moving to the US with his family next week. Tyler gave a very nice thank you to all his friends and coaches for his great time with the club and he promised to stay in touch. Good luck Tyler.

We also said a Happy Birthday to Tate who would not tell her age :)

A great party was had by all........ even the dogs got fed birthday cake :) !!

.... the best bit was parents were allowed!

Barry is thinking of setting up a DST band so we can have cheerleaders for the swim meets!!

Thanks to Sue Trott and all the parents who were involved in organizing this and particularly  Coach Barry and Liz Hanson for giving up their home for the event.

Jan 2013

Belated Happy Christmas and a very Happy New Year to all dolphins and families.

With all of those extra pounds gained over the holidays, its time to get back to work. That includes the swimmers ! :)

Not letting the renovations at our regular pool (BASA) get in the the way, our dolphins are back training at Sandy's 360.

Click HERE for some photos of our dolphins at Sandy's 360 on Saturday last.

The latest version of our Dolphins Dispatch(our Monthly or so newsletter) has just been issued by e-mail to all members so keep in touch by reading this and sending any news in early for the next issue.

Happy Swimming

OCT 15th 2012

Anyone tired after that weekend? ......What a packed schedule of great swimming and challenges, particularly for the Round the Sound organisers, who never stopped until they got it right for everyone on Sunday. They made it seem like a breeze when in fact it was the gale force winds that threatened to force a cancellation.

Kudos to the great team, all volunteers, who, in spite of the challenges,  ran a great event and made it all worth while to the 170 visitors to Bermuda and a huge number of Bermuda's resident swimmers.

In spite of a shortened course to make it safe for the swimmers, the event was a lot of fun and great success.

Well done, to all the DST volunteers who, as part of that team, helped to make it the super event it always is.

The Sharks swim meet went very well too on Saturday. Everyone swam well the there were lots of PB's and very few DQ's.

Congratulations all the swimmers in this event . Here is a link to the DST results .......Thanks Gretchen for all the work that goes into this so that the meet runs well :)

Thanks also to all those who volunteered to help run the Sharks meet. We hope to get you and lots more volunteers involved at the next meets particularly when the DST are responsible for running it.

Some Pics have been posted for both of these events;

FROM THE TEAM MANAGER - AIleen Smith, recently.....

In order to prep for our "Round the Sound" swim, Ben and Mark will be coaching an open water swim next Saturday, October 6th.  This practice will REPLACE the Saturday afternoon practice at BASA, so NO swim practice Saturday afternoon, October 6th at BASA pool.

This practice was run last year off the dock at Barry's house on Harrington Sound and those kids that participated had a great time!  Swimming in the Sound with great friends followed by a hearty breakfast in Barry's back yard (garden)!  Great team building event.

Here are the details:

8:15am - Meet at Barry's house and will be shuttled by boat to their starting point
8:30am - in the water at My Lord's Bay

9:15am - Meet at Barry's house and will be shuttled by boat to Shark's Hole (only if we have enough boats - if not enough boats, meet at Shark's Hole)
9:30am - in the water

Now, in order to make all of this happen, this is what we need:

6 BOATS - thank you to Mark and Dave who have already kindly offered their power boat and kayak - WE NEED 4 MORE

FOOD (Please let me know what you can bring and I will let you know final # of swimmers)
Breakfast Casseroles (if anyone has a good recipe)
Plastic Forks and Knives

Please RSVP to by Tuesday, October 2nd to let me know if your child will be swimming or not.

In full swing (or should I say swim !) at the pool.....See Pics of Swim America and the Juniors working hard and having fun at the pool on Saturday as the dedicated coaches continue to train them and work out schedules.

DST President

Good day, DST Families-

I hope that everyone is enjoying their summer.  For those of us still on island:  Happy Cup Match.

This morning, the BASA office sent out a link to their website directing individuals toward the 2012/2013 BASA membership form.  By all means print out the BASA form and complete it.  However, BASA fees are included in the DST membership dues so DST makes a single payment to BASA for our swimmers.

DST has been working toward creating a new almost ‘paperless’ registration process for the upcoming year thanks to Anthony and Amy.  This system is almost ready to launch and includes on-line completion.  There will be only two forms that have to be printed and handed in (the BASA registration form and the DST indemnity form).  We are also finalizing the figures and making arrangements for the possibility for on-line payment.

So, stay tuned for the upcoming membership registration drive!

Sincerely yours,

Entries for this event are now closed.....See you on July 14th

Well done to all Dolphins for the great competition and sportsmanship at the weekend. What a great event, where in spite of the weather,  lots of medals were won, many PB's were broken and great fun was had by all.

Congrats to the Coaches for a job well done in training our Dolphins.   THANKS !!

Thanks also to all the Dolphin Parents and volunteers who came out to support the event which would not happen if it was not for you all.

Below is a link to the RESULTS that Gretchen sent out earlier and are now on the website. Below also is a Link to some photos of Saturday's swimming.

If you have more, please share......

Well.....We are home....what a great trip. If your daughter or son has not yet arrived....Call Ben

Gretchen has posted the Swim meet results
to you all and these are also available HERE. Thanks Gretchen!

DST should be proud of all the swimmers who gave their very best and hopefully learned that to be the best you have to keep trying and never give up. With this meet experience behind us, next years trip should be a breeze given all the training that each Dolphin is going to commit to in 2012 ...

You CAN do it so NEVER give up trying.

At the end of the trip Cathal Rynne put together an awesome memory presentation that you can see by Clicking Here ....Thanks Cathal !!

A further edited version of this may be available on DVD in the future for you to keep

ORLANDO 2012 .....LIVE !

DAY 4........The Final Meet day today.
Alot of learning in watching some of these very experienced swimmers. The team did really well again today with many more PB's shattered and indeed some impressive results.
We will post the swimmers results when these become available but everyone had a great day today in spite of the challenges.
Dave & Busters proved to be a great end to the day where awards were made by coaches to deserving swimmers. A magic show and great presentation finished the day in great style.
We leave tomorrow and look forward to a huge welcome home when we arrive back on the Rock :)

DAY 3......Orlando 2012

Wow ....what a day that was......In spite of a very competitive meet, the Dolphins were very impressive with many new Personal Bests achieved. Seniors started the day early with a 6am wake up call and were at the pool by 7.30am for a morning of stiff competition.
Following that the juniors were in great form in the afternoon as the weather continued to improve in spite of warning of thunderstorms.
Coach Hanson, Ben and Nathan were clearly impressed by everyone's performance today and the DST can return again tomorrow for another round with heads held high.

Good morning Dolphin Families, Some of you have sent me emails about getting the time standards email and time trial meet email. Here are the answers to your questions. This time trial ONLY applies to swimmers who have a BB time in their age group. This time trial is for swimmers trying to qualify for CARIFTA. Swimmers who can attend this meet are as follows: Megan Berry, Alice Branagan, Catherine Branagan, Nicholas Brando, Mikes Cave, Tate Crofts, Alex Davis, Evan Farrow, Matthew Frick, Josh Irvine, Madson Irvine, Megan Lau, Olivia Moore, Tadg O., Benedict Parfit, Christian Parfit, Gabriella Pucci, Amber Reid, and Brett Smith. The way this works is, if you are interested in getting qualified to go to the CARIFTA games, you can try out for TWO EVENTS and you HAVE TO SWIM IN THE EVENTS YOU ALREADY HAVE A BB TIME. You CANNOT sign up for an event where you DO NOT have a BB time. Also, if you have a BB time in only one event, you can only swim THAT event. The time trial is next Saturday, Feb. 25th. Warm up is 7 am start 8 am. Last one was done by 9:15 am. If your child decides he or she would like to participate, we ask that one of the parent volunteers in any capacity possible. If you are interested, please let me know. I need Name, Event, DOB of swimmer. Please let me know as soon as possible, we need to let BASA know. Have a nice day. Coach Elise

THE ALL KNOWING BLACK BEAR (Some say he is actually an Alien others say he is the son of Kung Foo Panda) has a message to the DST swimmers:

"Do not be afraid of swimming the longer events at swim meets, your coaches have prepared you well. Set a goal for each event and discuss with your coach. Make sure you rest between sessions. Get your entries in for the meet on time and if you need help talk to your coach. Remember one race or meet does not a career make.  Enjoy the meet or...face my wrath.  I will be watching."  BB
